RAFALE DEAL CONTROVERSY
the rafale deal controversy is a political controversy in our country, related to the purchase of 36 multirole fighter aircraft for a price estimated to be worth Rs. 5,8000 crore ( 7.8 billion ) by the defense ministry of india from France‘s Dassault Aviation.
BACKGROUND
on 31 January 2012 ministry of defence announced that Dassault Rafale won the MMRCA competition to supply indian air force 126 aircraft along with 63 additional aircraft.
ALLEGATIONS
the day after the signing of IGA between France and india,the Congress party‘s spokesperson asked details of the agreement to be made public and questioned if there was an escalation of per - aircraft cost from Rs. 715 crore to Rs. 1600 crore.
INDIAN GOVT RESPONSE
our defense minister mrs. nirmala sitaraman reiterated it's earlier stand while responding to later claims of former French President mr. francois hollande about involvement of a particular private firm's neither govt of india nor French govt had any say in the commercial decision.
